Open Call | Writers in Residence | Fall 2022
Open to emerging and established artists for the fall 2022 sessions with focus on Visual Arts, Literature, and Poetry.
Residencies programs give artists and writers the opportunity to live and work outside of their usual environments, providing them with time to reflect, research, or produce work.
Writing Faculty | Mentorship | Internship
The Writing Faculty program runs annually in tandem with Writers in Residence program for the spring, summer, and fall sessions. During this period, writers enrol for a minimum of one week up to several weeks.
The program covers one-on-one mentorship sessions that can be tailored to your writing goals and access to writers circle for writers who seek encouragement, guidance, and community on the path to successfully achieving writing goals.
The program also offers [sm]art internships for emerging writers who are interested in digital publishing, sharing their stories, pieces, and takes on any topics leading to personal discovery and growth.
Mellisa Felix ("Call me 'Ish-Mell'")
Mellisa Felix served as executive curator at [sm]art Curators, a non-profit initiative curating residencies in Italy, international exhibitions, and annual festivals.
In 2021 Mell chaired the [sm]art Compositions, a distinguished international Committee of curators composed of artists, academics, and cultural leaders across disciplines with focus on Visual Art, Literature, Poetry, Performance Art, Public Art, Photography, and Dance.
Mell has enjoyed a distinguished career teaching in academia as associate professor of writing at the University of Maryland, (Global Campus), based in the UK.
She is a novelist in the process of querying her Young Adult novel, The Code of Them All.
Mellisa has placed in the top three in international writing contests, such as Gotham Writer’s Group/Serendipity Literary Agency YA Novel Discovery, and she has worked on her novels at writing residencies abroad, to include the Palazzo Rinaldi artists residency in Italy.
